How to get Set Up as a Ref with Herd of Zebras

Profile Setup

Profle Setup

Sign Up • Starting Your New Account

  • Enter your First and Last Name, email address, phone number, and set a password

  • Pass the CAPTCHA Test (prove you are not a robot)

  • Enter the 2-Factor Authentication Code sent to your phone

Download the official Herd of Zebras App

  • The app is available from Apple or Google. Click your store button below:

Getting Games

Set Your Profile Information

  • Choose a photo of yourself

  • Set your Radius of Interest, this goes off your address

    • We recommend 100 miles so you don't miss any potential games​

  • Give Leagues more information on why they should hire you

Preferences

  • Choose your preferred Age groups and Sports you referee for

  • Enter the amount of Years of experience you have and if you have any Certifications for refereeing any sports

Verification

  • Enter your Date of Birth, Social Security Number, and Address

    • This is for background check purposes​

    • Radius of Interest goes of the Address listed here

Payment Info 

  • The Banking information section in the App is currently unneeded, but still required to fill out at this time. You may enter any arbitrary information to complete your profile as needed to continue full use of the app.

Stripe

  • Stripe is the service we use to pay referees weekly

  • After you've completed your first week's games, with your invoice, we will send you a personalized link (good for 7 days) to connect your bank account with our Stripe​ account so you can get paid

Get Games

  • Once your Profile is complete, the Get Games section of the app is active

  • Games populate in this section based on what games are available and what is set on your Profile: Radius of Interest, Age Preferences, and Sports Preferences

  • Tap on a Game of interest to you

    • Games will show by sport, be arranged by date, and show time and location of the game​

      • This information will also be available when tapping into it

  • Request a Game by tapping on the position of interest under the Refs Needed section

    • ​The position will also note the pay rate

  • You may remove your request for a game by simply tapping on the Remove Request button 

Getting Games

Game Day

My Games

  • After you have requested a game, The league for this game, or a HoZ Admin, will approve or reject your request

  • Once your game request has been accepted it will show up in the My Games section of the App with Date, Time, and Location

  • When you tap in to a game in the My Games section, it will show you: Sport, Date and Time, Location, Rules specific to the league or tournament you are officiating, and Field Notes that will help clarify any additional questions you might have before arriving to that game's location

Game Day Preparation

  • Double check the Rules section for your games in My Games for any specific rules you will need to be aware of

  • Look over the Field Notes to see if there are any other things the league or tournament need you to be aware of when you get to the field

  • Make sure you have all the attire and tools you will need for the day

    • Common items are: jersey, whistle, penalty marker, proper shoes, water and snacks to name just a few​

  • Map out the location in advance so you know where you are going

  • Arrive at the field in plenty of time to make sure everything is in order

Checking In

  • Once you arrive to your location you can now check in on the Herd of Zebras App

    • This goes off geo-location of your phone and the address for the game

    • You will be able to check in a half-hour before and after the start time

  • Tap the Check In Button

Reporting Scores

  • After you have successfully checked into the game, you will now be able to see the name for both teams, areas to record scores, and an area to record any other additional notes or penalties

  • Once the game has completed, review all entered scores, notes, and penalties and  tap the Submit button

  • If applicable, check in to the next game and repeat the process
